Bobby Hopkins

My name is Coach Bobby Hopkins, I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana.  My family Bob, and Beverly, are my parents, and I have three older sisters, Lynnetta, Marilyn, and Debbie. We moved to Mercer Island Washington, in 1973 where my dad Bob Hopkins was named the Seattle Supersonics assistant coach and my cousin from my dads side of the family the legendary Boston Celtics great Bill Russell was the head coach of the sonics. As I grew up on Mercer Island, where I was coached by winningest  boys basketball varsity coach in Washington, Ed Pepple, where I played varsity basketball for 4 years. And was a starter three out of the four years and graduated in 1989. After graduating, I went to play at Xavier University in New Orleans for one year, and then, for two years, I went to the University of Maryland Eastern shore and played for two years, and then I ended up just finished up at Washington State University for two years after that. I then went and played Professional basketball in Greece in 95-97 and then I played professional basketball in the Japanese league for 4 years 97-2001. When out of season, I was a varsity scout an assistant coach for Mercer Island school basketball where we won the state championship in 97 and 99. Then from 2000 to 2004 I was a varsity assistant coach at Samammish  high school. I also was the varsity assistant coach and head junior team coach of AAU team FOH for 5 years. Then in 2005 became a coach with JV and varsity at Bellevue High school. I currently work at Tillicum Middle school as a para educator. My Hobbies are swimming, biking, dancing and traveling. My favorite music is hip-hop, R&B. My favorite type of movie is action adventure. My favorite food is pasta. Best thing and blessing that ever happened to me in my life was having my son Kellen in 2012, he is 10 and loves basketball as well. ❤️🏀

I coach to be a mentor to kids to teach them not only about the game of basketball but being a kind and caring person on and off the court. Hopefully, they will take what they learned from me and apply it to life and how they live their life. With purpose and grace.
